Well I am home after an easy drive, al the while wishing I had the time to stay for the fourth day of wonderful weather. Thanks again and again to Jim for putting on this great event again this year. It is always a pleasure to visit the mountain.

More thanks to the tow pilots and tug owners. These aerotow events need a lot of equipment and a lot of talent on the tugs. We had an outstanding array of tugs and pilots at this event. I do a little towing at our home field so I really appreciate what you all do.

Not many photos from me but I did get a few which I will share soon. For now, how about a video of Swiss1's maiden flight. Sorry, no idea what the model was.

Yesterday evening, conditions were perfect for close in soaring and Len and Jeremy spent at least ten minutes flying close in almost in formation. It was mesmerizing to watch...





The new hangar was put to good use during the event.

The 2-33 suffered some damage when a landing turned into an arrival. Started repairs today. Hopefully ready for Deleware.

Just arrived home a little while ago.

What an absolutely fantastic event.

Jim Dolly and his wife Marcy were the most gracious hosts and the site with the new building leaves me speechless. Just beautiful !

I arrived Wednesday in the late afternoon/early evening and didn't leave until about 2 this afternoon. Every day was filled with great flying and more importantly wonderful times for everyone to enjoy being with each other and catch up.

Jim, Len, Steve, and Tom did the towing for all of us.........many many thanks for all the hard work keeping everyone airborne !

Jim flew his Decathlon, Len had the new Bidule 170 (I should say Bidule 180), Steve also flew Len's Bidule as well, and Tom flew his DHC2 Beaver and his 100cc Piper Pawnee.

I just finished up a Bidule 170 myself and brought it along with high hopes of having it work right from the start. I was more of an airplane mechanic for a few days there, with lots of really great help from everyone, many thanks to all of you !

After sorting it out we had it up in the air and finally in service towing. I was helped by several people to learn how to tow and started to get the hang of it by yesterday, with several tows completed. I towed more today and had a blast doing it. It is really fun to be able to help get the sailplanes up and see all the flyers catching good air and enjoying themselves.

Jeremy and Tom made a wonderful board map of the United States and presented it to Jim. This is for pilots to put small pins with flags on them identifying where they have come from. It was great to see all the pilots putting there pins on the map and see where everyone is from.

There were some father/son teams at the event. Stephane and Matthew, Scot and Dan, and Steve and Kevin.

A wonderful range of sailplanes were there this year, ranging from about 2m up to over 10m. Several vintage sailplanes such as Gunny's 1/3 scale Schweizers. Erich brought his that he just finished and it flew beautifully. Michael Kelly is a true craftsman and had some of his vintage sailplanes along for the trip. While they were a bit smaller than other sailplanes they performed excellently. I especially enjoyed seeing his Vampyr flying.

There were some of the new Hangar 9 ASW-20's there as well as Blaniks. A wide range of glass slippers were there as well.....Antares, Ventus, Arcus, ASW's and ASH's of various model versions, KA6's, Nimbus, and many others.

There were many people at the event this year. My apologies that I am only mentioning a few here........everyone brought beautiful sailplanes that graced the sky on the mountain.

Oh well. I assumed they were interested in promoting the hobby to their members, it appears not.



Now onto the better story...

Cumberland was fantastic.......
The weather, the hospitality, and the mountain.
Jim has created an outstanding venue for soaring, scale or not. We maximized he days by starting at 8:00 am and going until the sun was completely gone. Even then we flew planes with lights !!

Nothing is better than sitting on the porch of his new building eating dinner and having the best view possible.......
