The Connecticut flag has been planted atop Knobley Mountain! Len had the nerve to text me at lunchtime (while I was stuck at work) to let me know he was enjoying flying at the HighPoint Aviation airfield...jeez, how hard did that make working the rest of the day!

I got home, packed up some tools, and headed for the mountain to meet Len and Butch. The Bidule 170 and a super nice looking H9 Extra 300 are enjoying spending the night in the new Hangar. Our very first overnight guests! Butch helped me finish up the ladies room and now we have a fully functioning facility.

ID:	2022 Yup, Mr Dolly speaks the truth.

Rolled in early for this event, everything I have work wise is caught up or ahead of schedule, so I bailed and headed for Cumberland early for some down time.
I decided to bring the Extra along and logged 6 great flights.
The Bidule was put together and flown for another 6 flights with about 30 landings. It has a 100cc tank plus a header, so lights are long.

I had it to MYSELF.

Good to be back in Maryland! If the giant steak I just ate doesn't slow me down too much, I will be on the mountain between 730 and 800 AM Thursday.

Prelude to day 1

Plan was to mow the field and fly my ASW20 for the first time. We turned the JohnDeere over to Len and he just could not stop grinning!

A bunch of people started arriving later in the day, so we sent out for Hartley's Pizza and had dinner at the field. By this time it was nearly sunset, so I carried the ASW20 out to the end of the runway and hooked up behind Len's Bidule 170. Wow, what a sweet plane! Here we are climbing into the evening sky.

Another nice day on the mountain.
Pretty much hung out, flew the Extra 300 a bunch, practiced landings with the Bidule and helped Jim cut the grass.
Congratulations to Jim for his maiden on the ASW20.
Flew PERFECT off the bench.

Day 1

Looks like we will start with breakfast at Linda's Old Furnace Restaurant (on Route 28 just south of the turnoff to the field) at 7:30 am.

Hi guys.
'm
Yet another wonderful day on the mountain. Really nice weather but spotty lift. Plenty of sailplane action going at all times and the tow planes never stopped flying.
The Bidule has been the workhorse of the weekend so far. Between myself and Steve P. we've burned through 10 gallons of fuel in the last two days alone.
Jim dove in and towed with his Porter for a while also.
I've been flat out, so no pictures were taken by me, however I saw plenty of guys taking pictures, I'm surprise they are not posted here yet..? Maybe we wore them out.

More tomorrow

We have a good turn out and that means a lot of people to feed! Thanks to the ladies for pitching in to help serve. Look at this crew!

The logistics of hosting an event require a lot of behind the scenes work to make sure everyone has a good time, is well fed, and given plenty of flying time. Len and his Bidule 170 have done a magnificent job of carrying the towing duties, but I owe him an apology for not being there to help out. Too many things taking my attention plus engine problems with the Porter that continue to frustrate things.

This picture is one of my favorites!
