  • LET DG808B

Finally getting started on my LET DG808b
Had to set it up in the yard and get the winglets on to help the process
Could'n bring myself to completely unwrap the bubble pack of the one piece wings as 'hanger rash' is a major concern.

    Pretty she is!

Are you bringing her down to Horizon Hobby Aerotow Scott? We can then make a family picture with my Let DG800S

    Teaser to get you motivated

Planning on bringing it to Horizon Hobby Aerotow so a "family" picture would be fun - maybe even a tandem landing again.....
Span is 6 meters - wood/carbon/foam wings - with water ballast system.

Worked on the landing gear system - as you can see its one of the original units
this was my first attempt but I found that the servo was drawing 1/2 amp trying to keep the gear retracted.

Here's the final version with 180 degree movement and minimal current draw in either position.

Hopefully you can see the photos now as I was trying to be "fancy" and put them in the text.

Moving on to the wings - I got the servo boxes that LET has on their website - had to do a little shaping and thinning to get them to press in.

I mixed up some west systems +406 Colloidal Silica for installation.

Then it was just a matter of sanding down to match the wing surface.

                    Scott,

Are you set of a scheme or are you going to LET it white?

Going to the Horizon event and hoping to bring the DG-808b with me. Just picked up the Baltic Birch 1/8" plywood for the shipping box. I'm going to LET it be white for the time being.....but will be putting some black on the bottom of the wings (visibility)

Little bit of progress, wow that rudder servo installation is just a "peach"......good thing there are allen head servo screws. The curve of the fuselage made the rear screw installation a test. Used 0.060 UHM carbon rod and bonded the clevises on with IC2000 rubberized CA.

Is that a steerable tail gear or does it have suspension?

808 has a steerable tail wheel that's forward of the rudder ( springs attached to the rudder on both sides )

Working on the fuselage wiring harness, found the Harbor Freight monical magnifying (7.5X) really helpful in soldering things together.
I did have to drill some holes in it though - it kept fogging up.
