      • From San Diego I want to thank Steve Pasierb for the invite to Cumberland Summer Soaring event! Although I was only able to stay for a few hours on Friday I was really impressed. Truly a great bunch of people and a very well put on event. The flying site is amazing! Beautiful vistas with abundant slope and thermal lift (another special thanks to Steve for being so generous as to give me some stick time on his awesome new DG-1001! After a quick explanation of the geography I was able to easily do some slope soaring and then pop up to catch some thermal lift. What a great flying site!) A wonderful and special gift to RC Soaring from Jim Dolly. I am spreading the word! Thank you Jim.
Thank you also to Len for his encouragement and kind words. It was fun flying at the same time with you!
Thanks also to Bob Morrow for showing me the details of the JR28 and its various functions and set ups. It helps to see it in person.
Thank you to Jeremy Hartman from The Model Box shop for showing me his clever model stand. I already went to Lowe's and bought one! I am now looking for the correct PVC pieces.
I can't say enough good things about the people and the site. I hope to come back again soon. Maybe for the 50th anniversary event... If it's not too cold I had a great time and while he wasn't looking I took Steve's PWS-101 and put it in the back of my van and left!

Thank you for the hospitality and happy flying,

        Aaron

          • Thank you Len. It was great to put a face and personality to a name that I have seen so often. I hope to cross paths again soon.

I'll post pictures of the PWS flying in CA!

                  • ***NEWS FLASH***

The Radian XL has been found!

I just got a call from some neighbors that have property down over the east side of the mountain from the field. They were out riding their 4-wheelers and spotted a plane in the woods on their neighbors property which is even further away from our field. As soon as they recovered the plane, they called me to see if I knew anything about it. As they described it, it quickly became apparent that it was the wayward Radian.

I will pick it up tomorrow morning and report further on its condition after having spent three months out in the wilderness of wild wonderful West Virginia!

                    • We need a distance measurement. Also, was it in a tree? If so, that counts as flight time right?

                      • Looking at the airframe damage, it appears that it landed in a tree gently, because there is minimal leading edge damage. There are some significant punctures, trailing edge damage, and elevator damage that seem to indicate that the plane fell backward to the ground. It was found on the ground in one piece.

                        • Good news Jim, I think it should be displayed in the hanger as longest flight in Cumberland, 3 months

I'll have my neighbour make a plaque for prosperity. How far away did it land as the crow fly's, or should I say Radian

As near as I can determine, the Radian XL landed about one mile from the point where it crossed the field at about 50' high. The terrain drops away, so the plane had instant altitude as it passed by all of us. As it made its way outward into the valley to the southeast, there is a point where the ground rises back up about one mile from out and down the valley...and that is the area where the plane landed.

                        • awesomer, good to hear JIm...still have the snapshot in my head as she floated away in peace through the valley perfectly..."I'm out of here on my own..."

                          • I am sure that with a charged battery it can fly again as it is!

Jeremy we don't want to hang something that can fly, unless we can prove that it is not flying anymore!

I think a little package tape repair and a new battery will do the trick...will it fly again at the Soar for Fun???
