With the motor mounted, it's time to move onto some small structural improvements.
Below are a few pieces made up and ready to install. I'll install these with West Systems Epoxy just before heading out of the shop for the night. Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_4702.JPG Views:	1 Size:	11.1 KB ID:	14924

I also decided to coat the joints with Epoxy mixed with a filler to allow it to "Fillet" into the corners.

Mmmm. Triangle stock. I love that stuff! Some simple things can make such a big difference in strength!

I tried another little experiment with hinging the ailerons and flaps. Instead of mixing epoxy on a pad and putting it in a plastic bag and clipping the corner like I usually do, I thought I would try going right with a dispenser unit. It seemed to work ok, although make sure the epoxy you are using is not too thick.

Also, oil the joints to keep the hinges from being ruined.

I buy a big box of syringes from the local veterinarian suppliers for this very reason. You can get the epoxy into the smallest places.

Funky hole pattern on the root rib. Always wonder what the designer was thinking when I see that stuff, not as in, that is stupid, but as in, what was the goal, weight reduction, clearance for something, but what?

One of the neat features of this plane is the landing gear system and the shock struts. The main gear and the nose wheel all have shocks.

The downside of the plane is the main gear is located in the wing panels. That means two things. 1) you need a cradle to support the plane when the wings are off. 2) the landing gear sticks out of the wing bottoms and makes transportation and storage more of an issue.

With that said, the installation was straight forward as the main gear fits perfectly into sockets in the wing panels, although I did find every bolt and nut were simply finger tight. I had to completely disassemble each strut, replace the China junk bolts and reassemble with Loctite and/or lock nuts

I very often, and more times than not, use medicine syringes to apply epoxy. Much more control. Not stupid cheap, but worth the 50 cents a use for the control of application. Here is a link to the Monojet syringes I use. A box of 50 typically lasts me about 18 months.

Just another choice/option. With the tips of these syringes being tapered, I can cut the tip back depending on what diameter bead I want to apply.

I'm looking forward to watching those gear work on landing, but it will probably be hard to see the trailing arm action with the wing obstructing the view. Len, could you recover the wings in clear so I can see it better? Thanks, Bud, your the best....

The if you choose to install canisters, the required header length and canister setup is too big for the space allowed. However, it may me possible to use mufflers or shorten the headers if you get creative.

Which were your planned cannisters? And recomended header lenght?
I even considering the ZDZ 180 as is light; right in size but I am afraid it will be TOO Much....

Ok Len thanks for the answer. I will check that as the canisters I had in mind do fit , the Toni Clark ones.
By chance I spend my vacation time (three times a Year) at Eauze; town close to Nogaro_hometown of the Midour_
My wife loves the food and the weather so I go flying...I even have a K6 1/2 at my friend´s house Michel Bador (co-designer of the Bidule Family and specially of the Midour...) So I just take the Tx with me

If I can be of any help just let me know,

            Adrián Cuesta

That's great Adrian, thanks for posting the pictures. Tell Michel we love the Bidule, especially the 170. Where are you located?

Hello again Len, certainly I will let him know.

I am located in Gijon-Asturias in the north of Spain. I have a 6 hour drive to Eauze but believe me it´s well worth,in spring even go some weekends. Michel and I have been friends for 16 years allready and he is very good friend of Topmodel owner.

The Bidule is based on a club training plane, went bigger and twin fins. I will search for some pictures of the original.
Their club has been towing for at least 25 years. Lot´s of experience. In France they tend to use more the towing "machines" German/Austrian/Swiss pilots use more the Scale ones. I am waiting myself this winter for a Bruckman Swiss Trainer. Will be my 3rd plane from him (Swift and Fox allready).
But bought the Midour when Michel told me it would not be in production anymore. Actually I got the last one Topmodel sold and Michel owns the prototype
The Midour being scale has the same airfoil of the Bidule and the fuselage is just lengthened a bit for a better tail moment.

                Regards,

                Adrián

                    Hi Adrian,
I wonder if you could tell who I should get in touch with at Top Model, reason being I am building their 1/3 Scale Pilatus Porter and I have a few issues with some of the components that are damaged! Thank's for any help you can provide.

Working on the canister installation now, however the length is a problem since they extend up to and over the wing tube. What to do?
I ended up bending the headers ever so slightly to allow the cans to raise up over the wing tube and give a bit of clearance.

To hold these can's, there rear of them have a nipple which will be captured with a silicone tube. I constructed a holder system using hardwood drilled out to the correct size, then wrapped them in Carbon fiber thread. Attaching these to a cross support was simple using epoxy.

The cross support is secured with 4 bolts so the canisters can be removed if needed.
