  • AMR Payload Master 100 / Icarus2

Finally getting "back in the saddle: on the AMR Payload Master construction after an extended pause.......

Progress so far......converted the flaps to top driven 180 degree servo movement .... an effort to keep the flaps up when the power is off and lower current requirements when down

Got stuck on the firewall forward section - was going to put a DA150 ....but found out the size of the engine was incompatible with my cowl.
So I opted for a DA120 that was smaller than the MVVS 116 that was in my old one.......Then, because of the Bidule170 build, I found a DA170 would fit in the cowl (with some minor adjustment)

Here is the DA 120 vs DA170 in the Cowl

After the standard Poly-Spray application ( so the covering won't be see thru ) it's on to the base white

            Hi Scot,
I'm so happy to see you back on this build. Reading the engine post above leave me wondering, are you going 120 or 170?
Its been a while since I have seen the Payload Master, what are the parts in the forth picture of post 1?

              Hi Len,

Fourth picture in post 1 is current fin/ rudder vs. old version
Original PayLoad Master 100 suffered from depleted electron resources and "surface contact"
the following "compact" photos are circa 2013

Decided to re-re-re-engine with the new DLE-130 so as to avoid making a new cowl ( didn't want the spark plug caps sticking out of the Icarus wing graphic on the front of the cowl )

In looking over the Falcon Propeller chart, I won't be loosing that much performance from the 170/150 ( 32.5 kg thrust vs 38 Kg. )

Now I remember why I've been procrastinating on this ......

Icarus image paint masks - cutout all the Accent details for this one.....then transferred to the paint masks .....and then cut them out .

Now I just have to find the big swoopy masks I used on the sides to cut out the ultracote.......

Had to cut out the left side Icarus graphic again as I placed it too high on the fuselage and there was no wing image below the window. Referenced some old pictures and got it a little lower so the accent lines will show up this time.

Now just waiting for paint to dry so I can mask off the Turquoise area and get some Omaha Orange.

                        Thanks Stephane,

I should be a Fun airplane......I've been watching an old video from the Coachella AeroTow 2013 that has it flying around ( and making a lot of prop noise)

Meanwhile, ....back at the Masking / Painting Ranch.......it's going to be an Omaha Orange Sunrise ( first spray coat anyway ).

Exhaust headers completed, K&S exhaust stubs, 25mm elbows and 28mm connector tubes brazed together Using MVVS Canisters that are made for short header lengths.
