  • 10th Annual Cumberland, MD Spring Soar for Fun ~ March 27-31, 2019

Time to open the season here in the Northeast USA. Considering that we have had snow on or about the third week of March the last several years, we have decided to push the event to the fourth week of March for 2019...we will see if that turns out to be a wise move!

    Date: Wednesday, March 27 - Sunday, March 31, 2019

Place: HighPoint Aviation Airfield in Wiley Ford, West Virginia (three miles south of Cumberland, MD)

I’m already mentally there. Looking forward to redbuds and no snow.

Janet (Swiss Miss) has once again arranged a block of discounted rooms for us at the Fairfield Inn Cumberland!
Please make your booking ASAP and ask for the Cumberland Aerotow rate. As you know Katie no longer works there, so there is no need to bring Beer as we used to do, but that said,
Janine who is the General Manager, loves Snacks and Candy, so please drop of a goody bag for her when you check in and say hi, she wants to meet you all! If you have questions or need help you can contact her directly. A thanks to Janet Hasty Hartmann on Facebook would also be welcome, remember they don't have to do this but they like to help out when possible!

We are now one month away from people arriving for the Cumberland Spring Soar for Fun, and there is exciting news. Our first building was added in the spring of 2015. The second building was added in the spring of 2017. Today, we broke ground for the location of building #3 to be built spring of 2019! I am beginning to notice a pattern. 😎

Building #3 will be identical to building #2. These buildings will serve as hangars for planes and equipment. Our goal is to now use building #1 as mainly a people building. One of the issues we had at the end of the day was making room for both planes and people. Hope that will be improved with this addition!

Wow! There will need to be an addendum to the nice article in this month’s Model Aviation!

BTW, with three buildings you will now be considered a village. I volunteer to be your idiot.

Tomorrow would have been our traditional start date for this event, but the last two years convinced us to move it a week later in hopes of milder conditions. At this point that is looking like a wise decision since cold, rain, and wind is moving in on Thursday.

In the mean time, we have gotten the location for building #3 established and had the road improved after the winter damage.
