  • Let's build a Vx...

... or whatever Schempp-Hirth ends up calling it. I have a mold for a 1:3 Ventus 2c fuselage, foam and obeche from Asher so let's get after it!

Mike , I just picked up a Let Ventus 2C, are you saying the Ventus 3 is the same Fuselage just different Wing Plan?
You want to build me a wing set
        I'm watching with interest.

Yep. The full scale guys are loving the wing, buy complaining the rest didn't evolve. I call it a "Varcus" or "Varcus We"ll See." There would be a helluva market for Let selling plugin new wings for their previous ships. A better airfoil blended to the old root!

I built a wing like that when I was four or five. Couldn't find long pieces of wood so scabbed together several short pieces. My Grandmother liked it but she liked everything I made.
                  Thank God for Schleicher.

Some early design guesswork based on the few available photos. Any suggestions?

So Mike........ what's the plan for the construction of the wing?
I'm building a 4 meter Arcus that I will be sheeting with obechi.......the wing platform with progressive dihedral at each joint makes for a difficult project.
Current thought process is to put the cores in their beds and install the carbon tow spar cap on the top of the wing first....... then make templates of each panels sheet of obechi.
Next would be to cut glass panels that go between the core and the sheeting...... these glass panels will be flush with the root end and extend 1" onto the next panel so as to "tie" the sheeting together at the panel breaks.
Using slow setting epoxy each panel starting at the root will be laid down and taped with trusty old blue tape....... then the whole shebang put in a vac bag and sucked down till cured.
Once the top is done the plan is to flip the wing over...... cut a groove for the shear web....... install the shear web..... then carbon cap and do the sheeting ritual all over again.
                            Repeat for other wing!
So....... is that what you're thinking of doing also?

Hey Tom. I'm going to do something similar: obeche with biased carbon cloth underlay, Graphlite spars caps with criss-cross (not to be confused with "Swiss cross") overlap in the fuselage. Definitely going to need some jigs for those dihedral breaks.
