  • Blanik 2.0

Here is the start of one more project, as I always know when I start them, not necessarily when I complete them.

I love my first blanik and moved it to a close friend, well I miss it a lot. that plane was ugly to my eyes before and is now sexy to my eyes, funny how we change taste, so I decided to build another one...

First task has been fuselage reinforcement, for landing gear and for the cockpit frame, mainly used there CF cloth

Then work on the front canopy as it came with a crack in it, I messed it further dismounting is so I am currently reinforcing the front arch of the canopy with some G10 plate

Will put some CF tow in between the two G10 arch so it is plenty solid before gluing back the canopy

I am currently thinking about reinforcing the back former of the cockpit, I saw some interesting reinforcement at this place on Andrew Griffith Blanik at Horizon Hobby Aerotow.

Andrew if you could post couple of pictures that would be great, as I have seen a lot of stress in this area on the Blaniks

Discus is done, time to get back at work on the Blanik, little bit less sophisticated than Gunny....

After some carbon fiber it is time to add some fiberglass at the seem between the fuselage and the radio tray, both split on my ASW and my former Blanik...

And here we start on the stab while the epoxy is curing

Stephane - Do you anticipate any receiver antenna issues with all that carbon?

                        clear answer NO

I will be using a Spektrum AR9110 with 4 satellites, so I will put two in the boom where there is no carbon, one under the radio tray (no carbon) and on between the wing (to have this satellite exposed when flying inverted, much needed with this model ;-)

                          Remain to go :

Finding that blody cyrilic font for cutting the lettering

                          Gluing the winglets

                          Gluing the front canopy

                          Verifying CG, going for 35-40mm
