  • The Model Box 2.0

The Model Box 2.0 is a hobby Shop located at 1921 Hoover Court in Hoover, Alabama. The shop owner/operator is best known to us as Swiss1 (aka Jeremy Hartmann).

What you may not know is that the shop suffered a devastating fire in June, 2013...Hence the 2.0 added to its name. A week prior to the fire, Jeremy's beautiful scale Musger Mg 19a sailplane won the best in show award at the Horizon Hobby Aerotow in Monticello, Illinois.

An article about the plane was published in RC Soaring Digest: http://www.rcsoaringdigest.com/pdfs/...SD-2013-08.pdf

The fuselage of the Musger is mounted on the wall inside the front door of the shop as a reminder of the tragic event.

This past week, we had a chance to visit Jeremy's beautiful shop. Our eleven day trip took us from Maryland down through West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, into Texas to visit with friends and family. On the way down to Texas, we stayed the first night in Lexington, KY and met Mike Kelly for breakfast the next morning in Elizabethtown, KY. We traveled on south and stopped by the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY and spent that night in Lonoke, AK just east of Little Rock. On the third day, we arrived in Whitehouse, Texas (near Tyler) and spent the night with one of my flying buddies from back in the 1990's. He moved to Texas with his job in 1999, so it was great to catch up and remember the good times. Day four took us further south through Waco,Temple, Killeen, Lampasa, Burnet, Marble Falls and on south to San Antonio where we stayed with family for the next three days. Starting back, we drove to Shreveport, LA and then on to Hoover, Alabama the next day. Jeremy had a welcoming committee at his shop and we were treated to some of the best southern hospitality you could ask for!

We arrived in Hoover just before dark and found the shop: Click image for larger version Name:	001.JPG Views:	1 Size:	195.4 KB ID:	15008

Upon entering, we found father and daughter debating a computer setup issue...I think their expressions are priceless! Click image for larger version Name:	002.JPG Views:	1 Size:	224.3 KB ID:	15007

We made a photographic sweep left to right around the front of the shop upon entering. Note the Musger hanging on the right side wall. Click image for larger version Name:	004.JPG Views:	1 Size:	196.4 KB ID:	15010

To finish off our trip, we picked up an AeroWorks Carbon Cub that Jeremy (aka The Transporter) had traveled to Florida to pick up for a customer. You see, we are working on our Junior Transporter Merit Badge!

Jeremy did the hand-off to us and we headed for home.

We drove to Bristol, Virginia and stayed for the night. The next morning was rainy and dark, but we visited the famous sign on State Street that connects the Virginia side of the street with the Tennessee side...all made more famous by the Geico Gecko!

The first half of our trip through the mountains of southwestern Virginia and into West Virginia was foggy. So foggy in fact that we could barely see the roadway of the bridge over New River Gorge! Thankfully, the fog lifted and the rain stopped and we were treated to sunshine as we arrived home to Cumberland. Great to see our mountains and to be home after eight days on the road and 3,286 miles.

Mission Accomplished! Now who do you suppose this plane belongs to?

Jim, great info you shared and looks like a great hobby shop Jeremy has! I had just passed through the Birmingham AL area last Saturday during the storm but will have to try and visit this shop the next time I am in the area for sure.

                Thanks!

A wonderful family helps Jeremy make it the fantastic shop that it is. I'm fortunate to have it in my backyard though that certainly isn't requisite for buying from them. Thanks, Jim, for the great job in featuring it.

Wow, what a beautiful shop, and the Musger on the wall offers a painful reminder of the past, I recognize the Arcus with HB-1127 on it, that's my wife's birthday. Thanks for the photo tour Jim.

Wow Jeremy! What a cool shop!! I wish there was room in our market for another hobby shop....I'd model it after yours!!!! We have a couple great hobby shops here, that have been in business for decades, but they look "average" compared to yours.....of course I'm biased as what I'm looking at are the types of models you have hanging about I haven't seen a hobby shop that looked like that since I was in Europe!!!
