  • Kevin K's Pawnee Restorations

My major projects for this winter are getting a couple more Pawnees flying. First up is this one I acquired from Len B. Len stripped the covering and was halfway through recovering it when he got bored and or distracted by something else. So here we go. First up was getting the new tow releases installed.

Next it was time for sanding, priming and painting. Got paint and primer from Jeremy at the Model Box and a bunch of advice from Gunny. Never done something like this before.

Got the fuse covered and designed and printed a mount for the receiver.

Went to mount the cowl and found it didn't fit. Turns out this airplane previously had a DA 100 on it and I'm using a 120. So the spark plug openings didn't line up. Got some advice from Len and Gunny and out came the cloth and resin. Real glad I didn't paint it yet...

Too bad you didn't have some lighter cloth. Like 1.4oz on outside and then the heavier stuff you used on the inside. Less filling. Or some release film taped over the outside to keep it flat. And sanding off a little primer around the patch area.

Sanded and then applied some Icing as Gunny and Jim D suggested, really happy with how it came out. This stuff is like magic!

Has anyone tried the other https://www.uschem.com/en/products/u...gepouches.htmlUSC garage pouches? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yGXCIK9auJ4

I have used icing but end up throwing most out after a year or so.

They have other flavors that might work better in places.

Mounted the cowl and made the cutouts for the spark plugs.
