  • Top Model Bidule 170 Fixer Upper Deal

I have my Bidule 170 for sale. It has been a very solid performer for the past 3 or so years, but recently at Cumberland had a main landing gear failure.

Click image for larger version Name:	_DSC4444.jpg Views:	1 Size:	168.9 KB ID:	28866

The Bidule was not crashhed when the main landing gear failed. The failure is due to the stress of the continuous take-offs and landings as a tow plane over the past few years. Repair for the the airframe is limited to the bottom center of the fuselage where the main landing gear is mounted.

The failure itself was on landing, with the plane just touching down and the main ear and gear block folded backwards, letting the plane come to rest. The engine and prop were above the ground during this and did not have any issues of the prop catching the ground. The engine was stopped with the kill switch and then the plane was brought back and packed for the return trip home.

Note that the main gear and main wheels were not damaged, nor has the nose wheel or steering system been damaged. All are in good mechanical order, only requiring the bottom of the fuselage to be repaird so the main gear and wheels can be attached again.

The failure was actually pretty uneventful, other than the realization the fuselage would need some repair work to make the Bidule airworthy again.

I have decided to sell it "as is" either with or without engine as my priority in the shop right now is building my new Smellyak and getting it ready to fly.

The Bidule 170 includes all the electronic equipment installed along with the accessory wing and tail covers and a silver stretch fabric canopy cover:
    • Aileron, Flap, Elevator, and Tow Release Servos: Spektrum A6260 Hi Torque HV
    • Rudders, Throttle, and Choke Servos: Spektrum A6150 HV
    • Nose Steering Servo: Spektrum S9020 1/5 scale servo along with the modified steering system developed by Scot Stewart and Len Buffinton
    • Receiver is a Spektrum AR 12120 PowerSafe receiver with EC3 battery plugs
    • Electronic Ignition Swith is a PowerBox SparkSwitch set at 5.9v for the DA170 Ignition System. (This has a built-in voltage regulator so a wide range of batteries can be used for the iginition system and be regulated to 5.9v to safely operate the DA ignition)
    • 100 oz main tank and a 12 oz header tank
    • DA 170 engine, which runs perfectly, never crashed or damaged and only used on the Bidule. Uses 93 octane gasoline mixture 40:1 with Redline oil.
    • Custom aluminum CNC engine mount
    • KS Comfort Mount Headers
    • MTW RE3 Tuned Pipes: Please note these have been damaged by the landing gear when it failed, see pictures below for reference
    • Air Models 29 x 12 3 blade carbon fiber prop (not damaged and in excellent shape)
    • Tru Turn aluminum spinner with lite backplate, drilled for the DA 170 engine
    • Revoc wing and tail covers
    • Silver stretch fabric canopy cover
The fuselage is structurally sound (firewall through the tail section). The formers and fuselage sides are good, the wing mount and anti-rotation pin is also good.

This would require some rebuilding of the fuselage bottom, addition of triangular stock, and reinforcement as needed for the main landing gear block.

The main gear and wheels are not damaged at all. The main gear plate was reinforced with an additional aluminum plate, seen in the photo above.
