Hey guys, bummed I won't make it this time. I'll be sitting here thinking of flying the Skylark at the summer event.

I will have one model to fly that is almost as old as the event. A restored Graupner Cumulus which was released in 1971. I don't know the exact age of this particular one but my guess is at the latest it was mid 70's.

Great thermal soaring conditions the first two days. Light winds and plenty of thermals. The next two days look great for more thermal soaring. The field is in great shape. Good food. Big turnout.

I set up my F3res high start and on the second launch I found a nice thermal for the old Cumulus 2800. Another great soaring day after the morning frost.

What a great 55th anniversary celebration. What a great crowd, what great weather, what a great host. Tow pilots were busy this week so special thanks for taking the time for pulling us around, although there were times no one was in line because we were all up at the same time.

I think of this as an aerotow event but really it is Soar For Fun, and we had all kinds of soaring. Lots of scale aerotow folks, some winch launch, some bungee launch, some hand launch, and plenty of e-gliders. All mixed together but little to no interference. I think that goes to the skill of the pilots that show up at this special place.

The site did not hold back. Some nice slope action for the early arrivals on Wednesday, then 4 days of unrelenting lift. It really took some self control to pack up and leave. See you in March!!!!

So great to see everyone again, and always a blast, especially for a 55th anniversary celebration. Loved the perfect fresh air everyday and chill of the mornings with sun coming around the mountain. Thanks to all the tow guys, Jim and Marcie and the new chefs Jeremy and Daryl! Looking forward to seeing the new house done next year there on the mountain 1/2 way up.

Had some great slope lift Wednesday and then thermals and perfect still air the next few days. Very Happy to add a new Diana 2 to my collection and do a maiden with just a few trim clicks, after untwisting a few wires (thanks Len and Stephane). Just had to stay through the end on Sunday and fly fly fly, and then drove all night...home by 2am. See you in March Cumby and maybe the turkey tow in Salem in 3 weeks.

And was great to meet Huey and add a special smile to every day.

                    Matt

What a great closer to the Soaring season! Thanks to everyone who made it a success! A big thanks to Jim for the wonderful site!

I decided to make a slide show instead of posting photos. If anybody wants copies of any pictures just message me and describe the plane or person!

Weather truly makes an event, and the weather was spectacular...59 registered pilots from 14 different states shared the sky for 4 glorious days. Absolutely wonderful!

A special thanks to Jeremy (aka Swiss1) for organizing the lunches and Darrel, Dave, Bob, and others who pitched in to make them happen.

And another special thank you to Jeremy (Model Box 2.0) for bringing R/C goodies, for transporting large aircraft models and facilitating ownership transfers: and to his wife, Janet, for getting special rates for the group at the Fairfield Inn.

As for the flight line management, thanks go to everyone for working together so well...with all the many different sailplane types sharing the sky in a seamless way.

We have now logged 55 Fall Soar for Fun events at the same HighPoint Airfield location...here is to many, many, more!!!

                            Thanks everyone,
                            Jim

Wow. That sure looked like an awesome turnout with great flying and good weather. I made the trip to Cumberland a year ago, now I think it's time to plan for a return visit in 2022!
