Thursday was booming with huge lift at times, a little slope here and there, and runs of sink that would flush everyone out.
Hot temps but a beautiful sky and a breeze to keep it manageable. Flying continued into the twilight hours.

Just got back home from an amazing week in Cumberland.

Many thanks to everyone that made the event exceptional as always.......there are many to thank, many really went out of there way to make the event wonderful:

Jim and Marcy.......amazing hosts that make this event possible.........the mountain is beautiful as always and the Highpoint Aviation facilities are just wonderful. You both are such gracious hosts and make everyone welcome !

Len and Luisa along with Scot, Steve, Conio (and others)......evening cooks who made many great dinners during the week.......and shared them.

The tow pilots: Jim, Steve P, Len, Scot, Pete G, Gunny, Kevin K, and Steve K (I think I got them all....I hope).............with out you we wouldn't be able to be in the air.........many thanks for the hours you put in keeping tow planes up and running and for the hours of towing you provide for everyone.

So wonderful to see so many friends and fellow flyers this past week.

Looking forward to my next visit to the mountain.

            Bob

+1 for what BobM has said...Fun times!

Here are a few pictures. I got there to fly starting Wednesday. It rained on and off so everyone flew between showers... no biggie. Thursday was beautiful and the lift was epic! I flew so much my feet hurt. For Friday and Saturday a whole lot of flying was done by everyone but it was a little windy/ gusty for my vintage birds and I was too 'chicken' to fly. At least I have no repairs on the docket! I don't know about Sunday because I headed for home.

All these pics show how the clouds came up through the valley. The mists came up the ridge toward the flight line. It was really an awesome spectacle!

That's it! I flew so much the next day (Thur) I forgot all about the camera after that.

Super great time once again, and to see everyone on this special mountain. Yes, Many thanks again to Jim and Marcie for the site and hosting and all they do ...and the Servo programmer to get me flying again ... and All the tow pilots, ...and all the extra great tasty BBQ cooking folks at Len and Luisa's trailer ! My packed roast beef sandwich’s in my cooler went to waste ...

...And to Len’s and Jeremy’s movable feast hobby shops and helping spirit, keeping the models flying... could not do it without you !!! Scott and Pete for the help figuring out the bizarre exact physics of retract geometry repair ... I took the retract system out of the Antares 10 times before we figured it out . And Bob , that super powerful extra large magnet found every one of the lost screws in the tall grass ! Congrats to Gunny on the new tow plane design !!! Awesome .

And yes hats off to Connio for helping me launching my new Horizon Fox ! Lol...I Stood too too close to hand launch and the aileron linkage caught the hat straps and took it for a 2 minute ride . Luckily I was able to save the plane with the extra weight and drag on the right wing . Live and learn .... luckily it was not “practice makes pieces”. This plane has been a lot fun .

Great to see the GPS triangle course in action with Stephane and Len, and mimic some of it live with my plane behind Len and Pete G . Really Looking forward to delving into this more with the traveling circus and learning the ropes . And those night radians with ice cream to top it all off every night !

See ya next month! Always happy times !

                          Matt

Wow, what an event! Thanks to Jim and Marcy for all that they do I.e. Lunch and ice cream and Len and Gang for the evening BBQ's. It was a HOT weekend but the turnout was well attended.
Thanks Matt regarding 185 Complient. Thank you Len for test towing the new Cessna 185 and Jim D. for the towing tips. And thank you Kevin for putting it through its rigorous tow session in the evening. Well done Kevin!

Pilots enjoyed five full days of soaring (mainly using aerotowing to launch). Nine different tow planes were used ranging from 100cc - 180cc. Four of the five days ended with night flying using Night Radians. Lift conditions were excellent with flights exceeding 1 hour being common. Eleven states represented by 40 pilots.
