  • SZD 39 Cobra 17

Delayed by snow storm but on the way 2.5 m Cobra 17 semi- scale from Royal Models with fiberglass fuse and rudder, obeechi sheeted wings and stab. They do have a version with cockpit and clear canopy, spoilers instead of flaps but was not available. I always liked this sailplane and when the slope version with flaps instead of spoilers (I guess for landing on cliff tops) and black canopy I decided what the heck! This will be my first aero-tow sailplane and I think I can get the cockpit for it? Well actually this my third scale sailplane for aero tow. My first was a Top model 5m ASW28 with a broken wing I never flew and sold to get an LET 3m ASW28 from Soaring USA which I also sold. I was in the hospital twice, a week at a time due to complications caused by chemo. Third times a charm!

My servos and hardware actually showed up from Esprit before the plane. I'll be using four KST 135's for the wing, two KST 145's for the rudder and elevator and a used JR servo for the tow release. I also ordered fiberglass horns from Esprit to replace what looks like plastic or nylon horns that come with the kit. The ply servo trays I had left over from another build.
