How much work is there to be done on the old fuselage? Awesome that you were able to get parts to bring this one back to life!!

The crate finally arrived this afternoon after being stuck again in Belgium, then Memphis, then Jamaica, NY. Nearly 4 weeks of travel and not a scratch! Plus I got my MIBO Team shirts so now I'll have to slip out of my red JR shirt and go green when I fly the DG. ;-)
I'm so happy I decided not to just replace the one panel with a damaged spar tongue and that Bogo offered me such an fantastic deal on going with all new parts. My original was an early production run which was good, while the quality, fit and finish on these parts is far superior. The larger ailerons are a big plus and the huge flaps should help it tow better plus now I can use full trailing edge camber in flight. It always landed fine but now I can play with the idea of significant down flap travel and see if that has any benefit?
Len -- I am still waiting details on pricing for the one remaining full kit w/ flaps/ailerons. MIBO was at the European F3J Championships the past week and I think they're just getting back to work.1 Photo

Okay, a boring post... but after weeks of being stuck in customs it looks like my new wings with larger ailerons and the addition of flaps (should tow better and gives full TE camber) are finally about to hop a flight to JFK. Lord knows how long they'll linger on this side!?
Mibo has one more complete DG in stock. With their thriving giant scale jet business and the success of their F5J planes, the scale sailplanes are just not a priority. If anyone is interested, I can hook you up with Bogo's email. I don't know pricing. Shipping is air from Slovenia via TNT freight.1 Photo

The definition of great service. Somehow, someway last weekend at the Cumberland Summer Soar, the side plate on the retract of the DG cracked.
Look what arrived today from Slovenia...

Day one was a success. Very windy conditions, but the DG took it all. Only adjustments were to remove down elevator compensation from landing mode -- spoilers and down inboard ailerons cancel each other out for very smooth, scale-like landings. I ordered this true scale so there are no flaps. Also removed 1.5 ounces of lead from the nose with likely more to come out once it is flown in calmer conditions for a few dive tests.
Plane tracked beautifully behind the tug with just a camber preset. Travels around the sky very well, Indicated lift and turns in lift well, and will do a few thrill circuits of the field at low level without giving up much altitude. There is not much aileron surface so when it is travelling slowly, ailerons are a bit sluggish. Add speed and everything is just fine.
Looking forward to flying it at Cumberland later in July.

Completely unscientific experiment here: I balanced the DG in my basement workshop essentially holding it up on two CG marks on the bottom of the wing. You know, the old and too frequent way.

Wanting to be certain, today I reassembled the plane in the garage and placed it on the high quality/accuracy CG balance rig, installed all the pans and equipment, etc. Yep, 6.5 more ounces were needed to achieve the recommended 70mm from the LE CG.
All told, 77 ounces + 6.5 for a whopping 83.5 ounces in the snout of this beast!

Well... mostly. Mr Back Seat lost his feet.Originally posted by Xroadie View PostIt's nice when the scale pilots actually fit in the "scale" cockpit
Got the canopies fitted tonight -- too much yard work today -- and realized I needed to add cables to help them from opening too far.2 Photos
