  • Schweizer 1-26E ~ 1/2.5-scale Kit by Peter Goldsmith (Build thread by ErichS)

Rainy day 1-26 glider project has started and there has been a lot of them here in the northeast this spring. So far the build has gone to plan. Changed a couple small things for my needs. The Rudder assembly will be removable just like I did on my 2-33. Also changed out the robart hings for the heavy Dubro ones. Just like having the surfaces removable just in case one gets damaged. Hope to have it done by this years Fall cumberland funfly.

To make the fin assembly removable for storage I added two Alum. tubes to F1 and F2. Will add carbon dowels rods to the fuse section.

Now that building season in fully under way I wanted to update my 1-26 thread. I know....it has been a long time since that last post. But there has been slow and steady progress. The wings have been completed and are waiting to be covered. I have only made a couple modifications which I will point out. These mods were made for heavy wind days at Cumberland and are not needed for general flying.

Using Jims build thread your wing will go together very fast. Did not change any thing at this point. Note: ribs are not glued down.

One of the biggest changes that I made was the leading edge. Ended up cutting the ribs flat faced with a band saw so I could glue 3/16 balsa to the front of them. This gives the ply skin a good surface to bond. The leading edge will be hardwood.

Now you can see some of the other mods that I made for my wing. First was the use of DuBro hings for the Ailerons and spoilers. This makes for easy removal in case of hanger rash or crash repair. Next I have added T/E balsa stock between the trailing edge ribs to keep the ply from warping. Finally was the addition of 1/8 shear webs to make a drag spar. Its more for ground handling so your fingers don't crack the ply.
