Normally I hate cutting a canopy and fitting it to the frame...it was still not my favorite thing, but the canopy Peter supplies for this model is very high quality and easy to work with. Very pleased with the end results!

I started this thread on January 14, 2018 to document the build process of Peter Goldsmith's 40% Schweizer 1-26 kit. Ultimately, the end result of a build is to produce a flying model. As of Sunday, March 25, 2018 I have a flying model.
Our test flight day had challenging weather conditions, but conditions moderated enough that we pressed the go button a little after noon. The first flight was everything any builder could hope for. The tow was solid and straight, no bad habits or hair raising gyrations. Flight was smooth and predictable with only slight down trim needed. But through the whole flight, all I could think of was the landing, just had to get that behind me! Perfect, perfect, perfect...just like the 100th Instead of the first.
In total, we made three flights so that all doubt was removed. This build has been successfully completed.
The plan now is to add some detail photos of the skid, spoilers, and hinges...then to organize this thread into a PDF build manual.
To all who have purchased kits, enjoy the build, because you have a wonderful flying sailplane awaiting you at the end.

The nose skid is made from a laser cut piece of 1/8" plywood. After a little smooth sanding to round the edges, thin CA was applied around the edges to seal them and then the skid was painted with thinner epoxy. The mounting holes get opened with a counter skin bit so the included screws tighten in flush with the bottom surface of the skid. At the back, a 1/2" thick standoff block was made from scrap plywood. This piece gets glued to the fuselage about 1/2" in front of the wheel well opening.
We shortened the skid slightly because of the scale tow release mechanism.
The included soft foam rubber tube gets cut into two pieces that are spaced between the rear block and front of skid.
These foam pieces are glued to just the skid (not to the fuselage). We used Zap Goo for this task, but Peter says that CA also works fine.

I use an old soldering iron to open holes in covering. works really well and sticks edges to airframe nicely. Here we open up the holes for the wing tube, servo leads, anti-rotation pin, and wing bolt.
The elevator servo installation works best with the output shaft to the rear. Push rod attaches in second hole out from center.
Pushrod we used is Hangar 9 Titanium Pro-Link 4-40 x 3-1/2"
Opening in aft fuselage needs to be opened up some to accommodate the attachment of the ball link to the elevator horn.
