  • DG800 clocked with a radar gun

This past week Jim and I traveled to Winimac Indiana for their annual "Out of Site Aerotow". The venue was beautiful and the hospitality was second to none.
While we were flying on Saturday morning, Tim Redleman brought out his radar gun and clocked a flyby of my CARF DG800

Speculation was the plane was traveling 100mph.. 120mph and maybe as much as 140 mph.

    Actual speed?

    179 MPH

Wow! I would send that info back to the manufacturer.... Len, you must have incredibly steady thumbs.

Oh yea, I now know why I have trouble getting a clear shot of those passes

It was amazing to watch...and as Jim mentioned, it was even faster than a turbine powered jet fighter model that made a couple flights on Saturday!!!

Ok, so here is the video to prove it, unfortunately you can not read the screen, Tim Redelman calls out the numbers and he is a very trust worthy guy

If you look carefully you can read the number... Its actually 179.5 mph, but who's counting?

Len, now you know with a little tweaking you should get over 200, Philip Kolb said the canopy should be sealed with tape as it is a source of a lot of drag, just doing that might get you another 5 to 10 mph. YOU CAN DO IT! And, tape up the gear doors and do a belly takeoff and landing for another 5 mph gain, you're on grass, so no worries about belly scratches.
