Ok, so with the input that I have received from you good folks I have reworked the size of the workshop portion of the building to 23x27 with a 10 foot ceiling height.
I just received the pricing for the trusses, which wasn't bad at all. Now onto the concrete pricing!

    Thanks for the input guys.

Some time ago I started designing the same type setup. The think I miss the most is a place to paint. I will be looking for a dedicated area for painting in my next house/shop/barn.
High ceilings and as big as you can afford. when you take a 16' wide building and add 24" cabinets on both sides along with a 30" work table in the middle. you're room shrinks in a hurry.
As it may seem way too big on paper, rooms get small in reality, especially if you listen to that clown that keeps saying "Bigger fly's better"

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd vote for 10 foot ceilings. My shop has 8 foot ceilings and it includes many thump marks on the ceiling all with matching dings, dents and scraps on various wing tips and root ribs. Even 10 foot ceilings done with ties across the rafters so the outside wall height does not have to change would work well.

    Workshop ideas

Due to an expanding collection of MINI Coopers, I find myself in need of a new glider workshop. So I'm reaching out to you guys to get some ideas of what I should consider when building my new shop. The new workshop will be attached to a 2 bay garage in my backyard. Approximate size of the workshop is tentatively set at 16'x24' with 8 foot ceiling. Heat and lots of light are my primary requirements, along with an 8 foot garage door. I'm looking for workbench ideas, tool storage etc.

See attached photo for an idea of what it should look like next spring.
