  • Hangar 9 ASW-20

Well it seems to be the beast of this season. Here is a thread to catch back all about this plane.

Mine has been built this winter in two weeks, working at a slow pace, you can as for the blanik tackle that down to a week if you are in a hurry..

I decided to go for the electric version, mainly because I am the tow pilot in my club and there is nobody else to tow me but also because the motor giving you that extra safety feature... you want to land and everybody is also landing (never happened ?) so just put some motor on and let the rush hour happening before landing safely.

Also great safety feature for slope flier... when lift is missing, glad to be back on the landing slot in one piece, personally I only se advantages, but it is my taste...

if you want to have detailed picture of that plane, follow that link

    Any question is welcomed

      Hi Stephane..

Glad you had the opportunity to really get some time in with the ASW-20. It's a great flying plane with a decent wingspan of 4.7m It actually looks BIG!!!!!
The fit and finish is superb, and considering the price, its FANTASTIC. I'm not sure how Peter and Horizon Hobbies did it, but lets hope they keep doing it.

If anyone is at an event with either me or Stephane and would like to try your hands on the controls, don't be shy, just ask. We're happy to help put a smile on your face.

The ASW-20 has really good energy retention as well as slow speed flight characteristics. The wing is strong as heck, you can really horse this thing around if you want. I've already flown the one I have pretty hard.

      Post your pictures too!

            Jeremy,

Weight is about 18lb or 8.8Kg, I use the recommended cells for the motor, 5000mA 6S

ONE recommendation : feed the landing gear and the spoiler with 5v and not with A123 or 2S lipo. Much more reliable as speed is slower the gearboxes and receiving much less stress. You can use the in line voltage regulator VR5203 one channel for the landing gear, one for the spoilers with a Y cable

I extracted the data from my castle creation ICE2 80HV and Horizon is dead on on the consumption

80Amp when the battery is charged and about 70Amp after draining 3000mA from the pack (5000mA pack)

these 3000mA allowed me to have 7 climbs, more than plenty doesn't need a second battery

motor is draining about 1700W, great setting feel really safe

Second flying session with my Hangar 9 ASW-20, after the bungee start here is some aero towing, Dolly test should follow shortly. Really happy of the plane, very good all-rounder at slow speed ad at high speed.

First aerotow of the season for my ASW-20 from Hangar 9 during the MRCA aerotow in Ann Arbor Michigan on may 2nd and 3rd. Spring is blossoming with superb we...

An update today, we can now ship any of the large scale Hanger 9 and Eflite models such as the Blanik and ASW-20 directly to your doorstep, as Horizon Hobby has granted us retailers free shipping. It was not cost effective before as we also incurred over size charges which killed the deal! So if any one wants to order through THE Model Box we would greatly appreciate it! And if anyone locally is in need of one such as Snatch McLeod, we do have them in stock with retract
There is plenty of time to build one before the Horizon Aerotow.

FedEx truck delivered sailplane today. What a nice airplane! CF in all the right places and really nice gelcoat finish! There was a forklift hole in the fuselage box but, fortunately, no damage. It just missed the fin and fuse at that junction. The hole did make for a nice hand hold while I and the truck driver loaded boxes into car!
