  • Winglets!

I was looking for some winglets for my DG-500 and as the tip are in between dimension, no fit from any suppliers...

Well, I just decided to carve some to see if I was able to do a pair...

Look like after couple evening I am quite happy with what I did.

First I assembled a sandwich of balsa/plywood/balsa with wood glue in order to do a regular carved tip on the wing, and cut another sandwich for the winglet with thinner balsa using one of DG 3 views. then inserted piano wire in the tip to support them

Next move has been to shape both part using wing airfoil and inspiration! sanding both side with an angle and gluing it in place using CA. Biggest part is to do them symetrical

Then, gererously appying 3M 77 and laying down some light Fiberglass cloth, and soaking it with thin epoxy

    Let it cure, primer, filler

Just remian to paint it, should be ready in time for winamac...

Nice project. Did you attempt to replicate a specific winglet airfoil or are they mostly aesthetic?

        Steve,

I have worked with the TLAR concept for the modelisation of the airfoil to use on the winglet.

I will see in winamac if the calculation are matching the experiement on my DG-500

The geometry of the winglets is from the full scale DG-505 3 views

        ;-)

        Mike, see you there.

ID:	13041 Just for steve I move from TLAR airfoil to 30% for max thickness and asymmetrical secret airfoil

Now how can guess the glider that I am carving winglets for?
