  • Is anybody using any elevator mixing with the flaps? I don't think the manual lists any, if it does, I missed it. I also haven't been able to find any reference in this thread. Starting to sound like the answer is "no", but wanted to check. Thanks,

    Scot

Scot, are you talking of snapflap or flap compensation?

Since no one else has answered, I don't use any.

      I have snapflaps set up.

  • What a great afternoon for a first flying session of my H9 ASW-20,

Even better, I shared the stick with some of my fellow club members and with Tom, a flier from PA that I sold in coming seen us in Cumberland for SFF...

With two battery pack and 15mph of wind we flew about 2 hour,

    • Thats great Stephane!! Creating some new interest in your area.
I like how you give them a taste of candy for free, then hook-em

      • Yeah, I bet Stephane is a great fisherman! That was a 'blue thermal' day... look at that pretty azure sky!

        • Hello, has anyone found a stronger wheel replacement? Maybe not a hollow wheel.

I have a VT 80 turbine and a 40 OZ tank around the CG, maybe because of the extra weight about the retract area cause my Wheel to brake.

          Regards

if braking is not caused by tire rubbing somewhere, check on the axle/wheel housing play. It is tight, a slight bent of the axle will cause the wheel to seize...

Had that on my blanik (same wheel), running a drill bit help freeing up the wheel

        • Hello Stephane, the wheel rotation was OK , I think I just need a solid wheel to carry the extra weight. The trick part is that this wheel is thinner than the usual in the market, I guess max. to fit in the retract would be a 29 mm thickness wheel.

          • Did the tire break or the hub? If the tire breaks maybe you can inject rubber compound into it. If the hub breaks consider a wheel with an aluminum hub and solid tire like those found on turbine aircraft websites. A hub in two parts bolted together to hold a solid tire would be the most robust arrangement.

            • Arup, just the tire broke. I just order an ESM 3.5" rubber tire / alum hub. And see if it is strong enough.

              • My new ASW-20 just showed up on my doorstep. This is what happens when you attend an aerotow event and fly scale sailplanes. Ordered it from The Model Box. Thanks Jeremy! Unboxing the plane revealed no surprises. Everything was as advertised and the quality of the kit was spot on. This is going to be a slow build as time is in short supply right now, but I'll plug away every chance I get. This is my first scale glider, so I'm sure I'll have some questions.

                • Hey Bryan,
                  Thats great! Congratulations.
Happy to see you diving right in, I spoke with John today and he's jealous you're flying and he's not.

                  Keep us all posted

                  • Will do Len. I'm going to build the motorized version with an aerotow release. It should be finished for the Horizon Aerotow.......2018.

                    • Glad to have helped Bryan, as you get further in the project and need more components please let me know. It was good to see you at Joe Nall last week.

                        • I worked on some winglets for the ASW-20, look like I am in winglet mania mode...

Not specialty for flying characteristics, but more for look... I am hoping for some flight improvements but as in full size we are talking of couple % gain in LD ... that will be hard to benchmark, but we will see

Same than for my Dg-500, balsa put in shape, this time (thanks to Steve) I put a real airfoil that generate lift and not a symmetrical airfoil

we will see how it fly for the 50th soar for fun.

If it is a success I may build molds to make them hollow, and so by that mean lighter

                          To be continued

                          • And here is the video of the first flight of my ASW-20 with its winglets during the 50th Soar For Fun.
look like Jeremy and myself need a better communication on which side of the runaway we choose for landing...
