That will be this winter build.

This started with a smashed fuselage that has gone from 1000ft to ground level straight like to a faulty elevator. In route it met some hard wood in the form of a forest somewhere in Connecticut. This fuse missing love has been donated by Steve P to get a better life.

I have detailed a bit of this on the old forum.

    some work on the nose...

Lot of work to get this back in shape, changing fairings, and making it a plug that has been completed this year.

This summer project has been molded with the help of Vladimir

Fuse #1 is in my basement and will be my winter project. I will build a Janus, the predecessor of the Duo Discus. I like swept forward wings, seems to be a good subject.

Here is the foam cores laying on there bed, the janus has a characteristic straigh leading edge with a swep forward making it a very distinctive sailplane, the unlimited version of this one was the nimbus 3D, similar wing but way longer.

now seeking for obeche, found some sold by the bundle in Washington state, anybody has closer sources?

After coming back from the other side of the pond, I finally get started on the Janus wings

First the assembly of the wing core and beds using PU glue

slight sanding to have a smooth transition and roughness

then preparing the veneer for the upper surface, slightly bigger than needed as I have 1/4in extra length on the beds to roll LE and get TE straight

I picked a bunch of 0.6mm obeche, if anybody need some I have 12inx186in sheets

Underlayment of the obeche will be composed of 2.3oz glass, 3 degressive layers, full length, 2/3 of length and 1/3 of length.

spar caps will be 2 layers of 6oz carbon fiber, full length and half length.

Bagging should start next week end

that looks to easy with the foam you need a lot more balsa wood. almost finished with the other wing on the TG-3/2.0

Continuing the prep work, second core glued.

First core sanded,on junctions and LE, TE cut.

Now as I intend rolling LE, I added two tapes of 2.3oz 3in wide that I tacked on with 3M77 (don't forget the gloves or it will be a disaster).

Core is taped on the beds and bag is positioned on the bench, getting closer!!!
Also marked the ailerons and flaps to have the hinge line, we will go with live hinges.

                          It is in the bag!
Left upper sheeting of the Janus completed this morning, just need to wait result tomorrow morning. If happy the right one will be done right away

first, get some epoxy on the spar cap, ratio CF/epoxy is 1/1.2 in weight.
I used a roller to avoid fraying the cloth too much, worked pretty well

then the lay up of the FG on the veneer, there the used credit card or the hotel card is your best friend! FG/epoxy ratio is 1/1 in weight

Peel ply is soaked with a lot of epoxy for it to become transparent

you can see here that the peel ply is in between two layers of glass

Ready for bagging, couple painted tape pieces to avoid the veneer to slip on the core or plastic protection

Vacuum! you can see here the veneer rolling on the LE

heating blanket for the next 24h!
